Key Responsibilities

  • Play a critical role in driving and building core AI systems.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as art, animation and design to conceptualize and implement compelling online and singleplayer gameplay stemming from AI systems.
  • Work closely with the design and art departments to understand the game requirements.

The Role
You will be part of an innovative new project, working alongside a talented and passionate team on an original IP to create a world class online gameplay experience that will surprise and excite players. You will be playing a critical role in designing and architecting the animation network for both players and AI characters, building compelling and responsive characters and entities that will help redefine what a game is and how players interact with it.

This role will see you working with gameplay animators and designers to define best practices and advocate for player responsiveness while considering both replication and frame time performance. During this process you will have many opportunities to help collaborate, problem solve, and steer these systems as they develop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow industry trends to bring new technologies and techniques to the project.

  • Design and implement intuitive, powerful and stable user interfaces for a multiplayer environment, using Unreal Engine Blueprints and C++, to allow players to easily and enjoyably access game content, features and systems.

  • Work with the designers and gameplay engineers to understand the functional requirements of the User Interface.

  • Work with the UX team to ensure the proper requirements are understood, and communication lines are open.

  • Accept art and concepts from the UX team, cut up art as necessary, and implement in Unreal Engine.

  • As part of the Design department, use C++ and Unreal Engine Blueprints to build game modes, missions, activities and player-facing systems that provide creative, expressive and exciting experiences for the player.

  • Take ownership of these gameplay elements all the way through from inception and prototyping to release.

  • Proactively identify and fix issues in your own work, in addition to fixing bugs identified by other developers / QA.

  • Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with other members of the design team using Slack, code reviews, design reviews, bugs, and video calls.

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that any bugs or issues that require addressing are communicated effectively, and that the Design department is aware of any requirements from others.

  • The creation of concept art in such a way that not only does the art tell a story but looks visually amazing as well.

  • Collaborate with co developers and the Art Director on creating a unique stylized world.

  • Collaborate with the design department on generating concepts that will support story and mechanical elements when translated to 3D.

  • Ensure readable and cohesive artwork to help the 3D artists to create the game-world assets.

  • Collaborate with co-developers and the Art Director on creating a unique stylized world

  • Collaborate with the design department on environments that attract and immerse the player, while facilitating the player’s use of compelling movement, traversal, combat mechanics in addition to vehicles. 

  • Ensure technically sound content within the requirements including collision.

  • Collaborate with the design and engineering departments on VFX that attract and immerse the player, while clearly conveying mechanical, story and other information.

  • Ensure quality VFX to show the game world at its best.

Technical Artist

The Role
You will be part of an innovative new project, working alongside a talented and passionate team on an original IP to create a world class online gameplay experience that will surprise and excite players. Acting as a bridge between artists and engineers, you will work closely with artists, project managers, engineering and the Technical Art team.

One of the amazing things about this role is the chance to get in at a very early stage on a new game. As there is lots of scope for the game, world and team to grow further, you can use your unique skillset and abilities to have a meaningful influence on the evolving look and feel of the game!

Key Responsibilities

  • Art production workflows.

  • Game engine schematics workflows, pipelines, asset optimization/integration.

  • Shader development.

  • VFX implementation.

  • You will assume ownership over any assigned technical issues that arise on the project and bring them to resolution.

  • Technical Artists report to the Technical Art Director. 

Qualifications:

  • At least 3+ years of cinematic/games production experience. You have completed more than 2 AAA games/movies. A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field is desired.

  • You can be from an Art, Design, Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science background; however you must demonstrate a comfort level in working with both art and science.

  • Effective at communicating with different audiences: artists, engineers, managers.

  • Proficient scripting/programming in Python and C#. (C++ is a bonus, but is not required).

  • Expert knowledge of 2D and 3D art packages: UE4/5 and Maya/Photoshop needed. Houdini/Substance Designer a bonus.

  • A solutions-provider, particularly as it pertains to debugging technical issues.

  • Experience with asset optimization challenges/techniques.

  • A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems; the ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations.

You will play a critical role in designing and implementing massively scalable distributed services and storage systems to support online functionality and persistence for many millions of players, requiring world-class reliability and efficiency.  You will enable Spliced to provide a seamless and satisfying online experience to a massive global audience.

One of the amazing things about this role is the chance to get in at a very early stage on a new game, at a new studio. We don’t have years of technical debt, legacy systems to maintain, or restrictive backwards compatibility constraints.  There is a clean slate to design and build elegant new systems without compromise (and even with test coverage!).  The ambitious scope and creative vision for the game provides plenty of room for professional growth through tackling challenging problems, and you will have a chance to apply your unique skill set and experience while also having the opportunity to explore and apply cutting edge new technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Engineers, Designers, and Artists as customers to understand backend service needs and propose the solutions

    • Author technical designs addressing the problem domain, solution alternatives, trade-offs, and risks

    • Design, implement, and maintain distributed web services using multiple languages and protocols

    • Design, implement, and maintain database schemas of various types

    • Design, implement, and maintain queue-based and offline batch processing systems

    • Design, implement, and maintain caching systems

    • Develop Unreal Engine plugins in C++ for interacting with remote services

  • Develop robust, efficient, extensible, and thoroughly tested software that can be added to and operated effectively for years to come

  • Work with cloud infrastructure configuration across multiple providers for deploying scalable fleets of distributed services

Basic Qualifications:

You will be playing a critical role in designing the gameplay animation for both players and AI characters, bringing to life the characters that will help redefine what a game is and how players interact with it.

This role will see you working with all disciplines including art, design and engineering to help define best practices and pipelines to create visually compelling gameplay experiences that not only feel fluid and responsive but have a unique animation style.
